I wanted to congratulate you once more on receiving this year’s Dream Builder award at LA Family Housing award night. In the days approaching the event, I began to think a lot more of my dearest Ruben and how I knew that he wanted to see you receive this well-deserved award, for the many years of dedication you have given our children’s program over the last 20yrs. He meant so much to you, and me and I was sad because I knew that he was not going to be there. I was so delighted to see your introduction video. It touched my heart to hear you mention him, and talk so beautifully about him. I loved how you highlighted his work along with yours, and how it profoundly impacted the children that came through LAFH.
I had not heard his voice in so long and it brought tears to my eyes to hear him. His inclusion in the video meant a lot to me. You kept his memory alive, and I can’t thank you enough for this. For the first time since his passing, I felt him there that night. I felt him be happy and proud of your amazing accomplishments and to know that many people still think of him and love him so much. I thank you for doing this. It has profoundly touched my heart in more ways than how I could possibly express to you. Words can’t express how meaningful this was to me….
